PR: Smart bike lockers now available at Central Park Transit Station

Denver — November 2nd, 2023 — A partnership between Northeast Transportation Connections (NETC) and RTD is providing smart lockers that commuters can use to store their bikes at the Central Park Station on RTD’s A Line. The lockers have been installed and are ready for use. Riders can download the Movatic app in Google Play or the Apple App Store to create an account and unlock the lockers. Each locker is free for the first 48 hours. There are eight lockers in total, with two lockers that have a larger space to accommodate cargo bikes.

Funding for the project comes from a federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant. Marketing and maintenance for the Central Park lockers will be handled by NETC, the nonprofit transportation management association (TMA) for the northeast Denver region.

“We’re very glad these smart lockers are available to the public,” said Eric Herbst, NETC’s Assistant Director. “They’re easy to use, and they provide much-needed infrastructure to help people access RTD service. Riders can be sure that their bikes are safe while they take the bus or train to their destination. This is the kind of first/last-mile connection the city needs to get more people biking to public transit.”

The lockers will reduce single-occupant vehicle travel and facilitate alternative connections to RTD’s A Line, the commuter rail line that starts at Union Station and ends at Denver International Airport. Smart lockers are also planned for installation at the Stanley Marketplace, as well as additional smart lockers connecting riders to transit along the R and H light rail lines in Aurora.
